- Step 3: Download the resized image.
Pixel dimensions vs percentage
Use exact pixels when you need a precise size — for example profile pictures, banners or thumbnails. Use a percentage preset for quick shrinking when the exact dimensions don’t matter.
Resize by Pixels, Percentage, or Preset
Set exact pixel dimensions (e.g. 1920×1080), scale by percentage, or pick a preset for common uses. Lock the aspect ratio to avoid stretching — the tool scales proportionally by default. Upscaling beyond the original size is possible but won’t add detail; for best results, resize down, not up.
Image Resizer for Instagram, YouTube, and Social Media
Every platform crops differently. Instagram posts display at 1080×1080 (square) or 1080×1350 (portrait); stories and reels need 1080×1920. YouTube thumbnails work best at 1280×720. Uploading a 4000px photo when the platform displays 1080px wastes bandwidth and slows your page — resize first, then upload.
Use the preset dropdown for one-click social sizes, or enter custom pixels for exact control.
Resize Images Without Losing Quality
Resizing down (making an image smaller) preserves visual quality — you’re discarding pixels the display can’t show anyway. The quality loss people notice comes from saving as low-quality JPG afterward, not from the resize itself. Our resizer uses high-quality bicubic resampling, then lets you choose the output format and quality separately.
For the sharpest results: resize to the exact display size, sharpen lightly if the tool offers it, and export as JPG 80–85% for photos or PNG for graphics.
Yes — the Image Resizer is completely free to use, with no signup and no watermark.
Downscaling is safe and keeps details sharp. Upscaling large amounts can soften details.
