How to convert an image
- Step 1: Upload your image.
- Step 2: Choose the output format.
- Step 3: Download the converted file.
Which format should I choose?
JPG is best for photos and everyday pictures, PNG is ideal for graphics with transparency or sharp text, and WebP delivers the smallest web-ready files with great quality. If you are unsure, converting to WebP usually gives you the best balance of size and clarity.
Convert Between JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP
This free image converter changes any image from one format to another in seconds. Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP file, pick your output format, and download the converted image. Common conversions: PNG to JPG (smaller files for the web), JPG to PNG (when you need lossless quality), WebP to JPG (for compatibility with older software), and anything to WebP (maximum compression for modern browsers).
Conversion happens entirely in your browser — files are never uploaded, so there’s no waiting and no privacy risk.
When to Convert: JPG vs PNG vs WebP
Use JPG for photographs — it compresses camera images to a fraction of their size with minimal visible loss. Use PNG for logos, screenshots, and graphics with text or sharp edges, where JPG’s compression creates ugly artifacts around lines. Use WebP when you want the best of both: 25–35% smaller than JPG at equal quality, with transparency support.
Converting to the wrong format is the most common mistake. A photo saved as PNG can be 5–10x larger than the same photo as JPG. A logo saved as JPG gets blurry edges. Pick the format for the content, not out of habit.
Does Converting an Image Reduce Quality?
Converting between lossless formats (PNG to WebP, BMP to PNG) loses nothing. Converting to JPG always loses some quality because JPG is lossy — but at 85–90% quality the difference is invisible to the eye. The real damage comes from repeated JPG-to-JPG conversions: every save throws away more detail.
Rule: always convert from your original file, never from an already-converted copy. Our tool processes your uploaded original directly, so one conversion = one quality step.
